a review of a rural alphabet...

“I was so surprised and pleased to hold “A Rural Alphabet” in my hand.  What a precious gift born out of love of rural life and nature, using the refined tools of poetic language and the combination of refined design and joyful color, in fact, so precious in detail that I found myself tracing the soft hair on the kitten’s body and savoring the shades of the viscous honey.  Again and again I looked at the simple beauty that is contained among the objects of daily use.  As in all of your poetry, Joanne, with just a few works--like with the stroke of a brush--you bring to light the hidden mystery of things.  I loved to encounter the wise hens at the end of the book, pondering in amazement “what it was all about”.  Not to forget the sheep, representing artist and writer with just a touch of satisfied smile.”

Thanks to both of you for this jewel of a book.
